چکیده

The croaker Cilus gilberti commonly known as Corvina drum is considered a target marine species for the diversification of Chilean aquaculture. To optimize culture conditions, molecular markers appetite regulation must be examined. Ghrelin, gastrointestinal peptide, plays stimulatory role in food intake mammals and teleost fish. Nevertheless, even though appetite-controlling system relatively well conserved among vertebrates, bioactivity these molecules should analyzed each fish species. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate expression orexigenic ability C. ghrelin. After pre postprandial period, stomach ghrelin mRNA juvenile was analyzed. coding sequence used identify mature peptide then chemically synthesized. acylated (cgGhre) non-acylated (D-cgGhre) tested juveniles. Moreover, blood location synthetic after intraperitoneal injection were measured. results showed that has highest mRNA, levels increased preprandial period diminished it. There no differences secondary structure D-cgGhre compared cgGhre but with serine acylation stabilized its unordered conformation. However, cumulative feed occurred intraperitoneally injected cgGhre. In addition, maintained until 8 h post-injection (hpi). Finally, biotinylated allowed localizing digestive tissue, mainly pyloric caeca. growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R), also receptor, organs supports idea peripheral tissues. conclusion, suggest conserves reported other regulatory tract (GIT) drum. This first report demonstrating uptake distribution small tissues South American sciaenid. Although promising marker analysis culture, further research needed continue evaluating effects aquaculture practices on signalizer.

Gastrointestinal hormones (anorexigenic peptide YY and orexigenic ghrelin) influence neural tube development.

Gastrointestinal (GI) hormones play an important role in GI secretion, motility, and eating behaviors. It was recently suggested that GI hormones may have a trophic role in GI tract. Here we demonstrate that two principal GI hormones, anorexigenic peptide YY (PYY) and orexigenic ghrelin, affect neural tube development. Chronic administration into the pregnant mice or transgenic overexpression o...

Arcuate AgRP neurons mediate orexigenic and glucoregulatory actions of ghrelin★

The hormone ghrelin stimulates eating and helps maintain blood glucose upon caloric restriction. While previous studies have demonstrated that hypothalamic arcuate AgRP neurons are targets of ghrelin, the overall relevance of ghrelin signaling within intact AgRP neurons is unclear. Here, we tested the functional significance of ghrelin action on AgRP neurons using a new, tamoxifen-inducible AgR...

Immunohistochemical Localization of Ghrelin in Testicular Tissues of Holstein Bulls

Ghrelin, a 28-amino acid acylated peptide, was identified as the endogenous ligand for the growth hormone (GH) secretagogue receptor and its role in reproduction has recently been established. It is believed that the site of ghrelin expression in testes may indicate its role in local regulation. This study investigated the immunohistochemical (IHC) localization of ghrelin in Holstein bull testi...

Anti-ghrelin immunoglobulins modulate ghrelin stability and its orexigenic effect in obese mice and humans

Obese individuals often have increased appetite despite normal plasma levels of the main orexigenic hormone ghrelin. Here we show that ghrelin degradation in the plasma is inhibited by ghrelin-reactive IgG immunoglobulins, which display increased binding affinity to ghrelin in obese patients and mice. Co-administration of ghrelin together with IgG from obese individuals, but not with IgG from a...

A Novel Non-Peptidic Agonist of the Ghrelin Receptor with Orexigenic Activity In vivo

Loss of appetite in the medically ill and ageing populations is a major health problem and a significant symptom in cachexia syndromes, which is the loss of muscle and fat mass. Ghrelin is a gut-derived hormone which can stimulate appetite. Herein we describe a novel, simple, non-peptidic, 2-pyridone which acts as a selective agonist for the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a). The small 2-pyridone demo...
